when my head wasn't exploding

a week or so after i got back from kenya, i went on a pretty cool hiking trip with Melanie--we cruised up uncompahgre and wetterhorn, and Paco, my car, made me proud on some fun roads. but i didn't really take any photos with my big camera (and hardly took any with my phone, either). in consequence, september was a pretty slow photo month.

one thing that made the few photos that i did take with my camera turn out not so great is that my camera has been having some little troubles lately--as often as not, the aperture gets stuck between shots. this can do all sorts of weird things to my photos (does the aperture get unstuck during the next exposure? then it probably metered for a narrow aperture, and then got flooded with light if the aperture ends up opening suddenly, and then the whole photo is completely washed out, for example). i took a few test shots after the uncompahgre and wetterhorn trip to see if there was any hope for the camera (verdict: some, but just some). the test shots were, obviously, pans of a spinning thumbs up.

eventually i did take a few photos though. in early october, i had a migraine (because of course). the next day i was feeling pretty recovered, so i went hiking in golden gate canyon state park with Melanie. it was so pretty and nice and aspen trees were turning not-green. we were very happy and took photos.

we finished hiking just after sunset. at dusk, some clouds had moved in. it was pretty dark by the time we made it to my car. we got in the car and were rocked by a torrent of rain and snow and such. by the time we made it back to boulder, i had developed another migraine. because of course. in any case, this spate of migraines prompted me to see a neurologist, and an outcome of that has been finding a migraine-killing medicine that seems to possibly keep me from dying of migraines. hooray science.

i live with two music teachers (who are also great performers), so i often essentially get awesome free concerts. also in mid-october, i thought that the lamp-light was very nice during one such evening of music-making, and shot them a few times.
