goodbye, sadcastle.

once upon a time, colin the stringer lived in the fine chateau de sadcastle. today, he has moved out of chateau de sadcastle. although his stuff is all still there for a day or two.

in honor of the exodus from chateau de sadcastle, i have for you a picture of colin gazing out of his living room window, watching the rabble below go about their inconsequential lives.

also, in honor of the shindig that wasn't, i have pictures of tye brown pointing a gun at me, pictures of his son getting into things that ought not to be gotten, and pictures of tye brown looking rather thoughtful.

we need more fire.

A few days after i took the pictures from my previous update, my friend Nick's wife was out of town. To prevent him from being sad and alone on a Thursday night (or whatever night it may have been), i took him and our friend Alec back up to the overlook in the mountains. We made "hot" chocolate (haha...) in 20 degree weather with 25-30 mph winds. We were very happy.

refrain

Nighttime would be a beautiful time of the day if not for the fact that nighttime takes place at night.

The first three are from the aforementioned retreat outside of Estes Park. i have versions of each taken at different speeds--i went with the quicker shutter speed for the first one because the blurred clouds just weren't a very good look for the picture, and everything is at a sufficient depth to look pretty sharp at 2.8. i couldn't decide whether to go with a lot of stationary stars or a few rotating stars for the other shot, and decided just to upload both versions.

i lived 3200 feet above Boulder for a few weeks in 2010, before i decided to get involved in the most destructive wildfire in Colorado state history. The commute was pretty long (a touch under 25 minutes from my house to the edge of Boulder), but it was a beautiful commute, and the views from my house were amazing. The night i moved, i stood on the side of the winding dirt road within 100 yards of my house and looked down on thunderstorms rolling across the plains into Kansas. Sometimes i drive back up there to take pictures and love life. i did that to ward off some stress in early November. The last five are from an overlook about a mile and a half from my old house. The book was Anna Karenina, and i enjoyed it.

i miss the tree outside of Aplao, Peru.

surely we must ride one

Once upon a time, folks from a splendid entity called GCF spent a weekend near Estes. Naturally, that meant that i slept 15 of the 19 hours between Saturday at 3:30pm and Sunday at 10:30am. Whoa.

i armwrestled this creature.

see how it ran to hide in shame.

This is Jonathan. He was very pleased with my armwrestling prowess.

This, our companion, was quite tired because Erik had just finished riding it across the mountains at very high speeds.

Jonathan is very happy, and would like to tell you how to find the deep power of the true you in seven easy steps.

i was late to class

one fine day toward the end of october, i awoke to find that the entire world had been buried under snow and that the entire world was continuing to be buried under snow.

therefore, i threw on more-or-less warm clothes, scraped off my car, and trudged off into the snow and the gale to hike up mount sanitas.

my feet became cold, i grew a stachecicle, i looked at the luminous colors of rocks, i fell down and got my lens all wet, i stood on top and looked at all of the nothing that was visible through the clouds, i made a hasty retreat, and i found my car intact below. a massive complex of branches had fallen from the tree above my car. the eight-to-ten inch diameter main log had missed my car by nine inches.

i was 30 minutes late to class that day.

merry christmas, friends.

A place that is snowy and warm.

my desire to post pictures is directly proportional to how much i have been reading lately. i haven't been reading much lately.

While writing my prelim (a qualifying paper for my PhD program), i sometimes tried to work from my hammock. i found that that was a better way to get motion sickness than to get work done. These are the trees above my hammock.
